Frequently Asked Questions
What is therapy?

Therapy is a collaborative process that offers a safe, nonjudgmental space to explore your thoughts, emotions, experiences, and relationships. It’s a place where you can feel heard, understood, and supported as you navigate life’s challenges — whether you're dealing with stress, grief, anxiety, relationship issues, trauma, or simply seeking greater self-awareness and growth.

Working with a therapist means you don’t have to carry everything alone. Together, we explore what’s been weighing on you, identify patterns that may be holding you back, and discover new ways of coping, connecting, and moving forward.

Therapy isn’t about having all the answers — it’s about creating space for your story, your struggles, and your strengths. It’s a process of healing, reflection, and growth at your own pace, with support every step of the way.
How do I know if I need Therapy?

You don’t have to be in crisis to benefit from therapy. Many people seek therapy simply because they feel overwhelmed, stuck, or uncertain — or because they want to better understand themselves and improve their relationships.
You might consider therapy if you’re:
-
Struggling with anxiety, depression, or stress
-
Feeling overwhelmed, burned out, or emotionally exhausted
-
Navigating a major life change, loss, or transition
-
Experiencing conflict in your relationships or family
-
Feeling stuck in patterns that no longer serve you
-
Wanting to explore past experiences or trauma in a safe space
-
Seeking greater self-awareness, confidence, or balance
Sometimes, it’s just about wanting a space to talk — a place where you can show up exactly as you are, without pressure or judgment.
If you're wondering whether therapy might help, that in itself can be a sign that it’s worth exploring. Reaching out is not a sign of weakness — it's an act of courage, self-respect, and care.

What can I expect out of my first appointment and how long do they usually last?

To begin, you’ll need to complete the consent forms before your first session. Once those are submitted, your therapist will contact you to schedule an appointment.
You can get started by visiting the Home page and clicking “Start Now” to access the patient portal. There, you'll be able to enter your personal information and upload:
-
Signed consent forms
-
A copy of your insurance card(s)
-
A photo ID (such as a driver's license)
During your first session, we’ll review your overall history — including mental health, family background, and general health. You’re welcome to bring any documents or notes that may help you recall important information, but it’s not required unless specifically requested when your appointment is scheduled.
Each session typically lasts up to one hour. After your first appointment, your therapist will discuss a recommended plan for follow-up sessions. For many clients, meeting every two weeks is a good place to start.

Do I need a provider referral to start services?

No, you do not need any referral for any provider. If you are currently seeing a primary provider or psychiatrist, we encourage coordination of care and for patients to sign a release of information to their prescriber to aid in this coordination. We provide ease of access to providers who choose to refer patients to our office.
Please don’t hesitate to reach out at any time if you have questions. We want to ensure that your experience in therapy is supportive and positive. Even if you decide to explore working with a different provider, we completely understand and are happy to offer guidance or help with the transition. Your well-being is our top priority, and therapy is not a one size fit all.
